It helps to make the shoes airy and breathable, keeping the feet dry and clean - which is especially important for kids who are active or perspire easily like this boy of mine.
He also has rather wide feet and I was surprised by how well the shoes fit him (I only used their sizing guide to gauge his size) on first try and the high quality materials of the shoes, including the soft textile lining and microfiber leather, really impressed me too.
